Is this an interview?
I contacted an IB in LA asking about internship positions, if we could meet, ect. The guy I contacted passed me on to an analyst and he asked when I would be available for an in-person meeting. So I am set to meet with him and maybe the MD I contacted 4 hrs after I get off my flight home for thanksgiving break.
I do not know if this will be an interview or just a sit and chat type deal. Do I wear a suit and expect the interview? Or do i opt for just a shirt and tie? I would assume that it would be best to cover my bases and go in ready for an interview. What do you guys think?
In my original email I said "I was wondering if you might have a minute to discuss your job and offer me advice on how I could position myself for a summer internship"
I think you're approaching it the right way but it does seem to be unclear. Better to be safe than sorry.
It's unclear... but I'd recommend approaching it, and preparing for it, like an interview. Wear a suit and tie for sure.
suit yes tie no. remember you said chat, which may very well lead to a job but you dont want him to think "this kid came prepped for a job interview"
It's uncertain... but I'd suggest nearing it, and planning for it, like an meeting. Use a suit and tie for sure.
Always assume meetings like this are interview scenarios. That means, dress for it (wear a suit) and be prepared for all behavioral and technical questions.
Thanks guys. Suit and tie it is. Luckily I was able to change my flight home to tomorrow afternoon so I will have time to sleep and prepare.
