it’s been a month and the hiring manager wants to chat

hi all, I hadn’t heard back from my BB as a junior that I had a super day with last month I was last round non-target. And the hiring manager reached out via email and said they wanted to chat. I’m thinking it’s a rejection, but usually rejections are automated emails… very confused. thoughts?

I’ve never had a rejection call, always an email or nothing.

Only similar call I’ve had was a rescinded offer, which was bonecrushing to hear as I already received a verbal offer.

do you know what happened to get the rescinded offer? was it just bad markets and timing

Someone from another group internally was promised the job that I was given. The MD interviewing me and giving me the job didn’t know about this promise until after he gave me the verbal offer. It came down from some executive really high at the company and the MD had to give the job to the internal hire. He told me on the phone he would have preferred me over the person they sent to him. But, he said his hands were tied.
