Jobless at 40

In my country, we are experiencing a lot of competition due to the influx of foreignners. I read with horror about people getting retrenched at 40 years old and unable to find a job.

I am now stepping into the financial industry at 27 after 3 years in the education industry. Is risk management or analyst a good area to start off if I want a relatively stable job that can weather recession? I wrote my cfa l3 and frm l2 already.

thunderfan118As sad and backwards as it is, risk management is generally one of the first divisions to experience cuts during a downturn
Pre crisis, most definitely. I don't think this will continue going forward though. Going forward, it will be no less stable than finance or treasury.
