Land Summer S&T Position Without Networking

I have a strong GPA (over 3.9) as a math major from a top target school, along with good ECs (finance related and just for fun activities) and a finance related internship last summer (not trading related however). I am very interested in a S&T internship, but I have not made much effort to network. I have attended a few on campus events (although many of these focused on IBD instead of S&T) but have not emailed any current analysts at BBs. I know I should have networked much more over the past few months, but unfortunately I cannot change that. I know a lot about the industry and can nail the technicals and behavioral questions. I'm mainly worried about not getting a first interview at all. Is it still possible for me to land a role simply by submitting a resume through OCR? Is there still time left for me to try and network as much as possible? On campus interviews occur in late January.Thanks.

But would it be beneficial for me to network a bit between now and the end of January? Everyone on WSO is always emphasizing networking, networking, networking so I didn't know if it was possible to get a SA position without it.

Yes you still have time to network, especially if you go to a target school that has a large alumni base.

Given your situation with a strong resume and OCR, networking will be very helpful when it comes to bank specific and fit type questions. From talking to people you'll get a sense of the answers to "why xyz bank?" You'll also be able to talk knowledgeably about the culture of the bank as well as which groups are perceived as the strongest.

These things will be very helpful in rounding out your candidacy and can usually be gleaned from the first networking convo you have with each individual.

Best of luck!
