Lateral after 7 months?
I know that people normally say to wait a year but would it be a bad look for an associate to lateral after 7 months to change cities and be closer to family?

You should be fine.
Just go for it. Your move will explain itself on your resume. I’m moving nyc -> nyc and have had no issues. Only thing to keep in mind is that you can’t hop again too quickly and make a pattern of it.
