Lateral Associate Sign-Ons

Quick question I was looking for some clarity on. In the later stages of a few lateral associate roles at reputable MM banks. I am relocating and owed a hefty amount of bonus from my current firm. I know it is firm dependent, but in this situation would it be expected to get a sign on/ relocation package? I am not looking to be completely bought out but just something to cover the moving expenses and to cover some of my foregone bonus. Im assuming the sign-on wouldn't get paid out until I actually start working there as well?
