Low morale going into recruiting?
Hi. First time poster. I'm a junior at a strong target but my morale is pretty low going into recruiting. For example, despite having strong grades + past experience + good resume (I think it's good), I did not get invited to a few private networking sessions that were held on campus. Seems like everyone who got invited knows someone and already has strong connections. I also did not get accepted to a few events in NYC (e.g. UBS Voyager).
I understand that these may not matter as much because they are not the actual SA application. However, as those of you who have gone through the process know, every rejection hurts and decreases my expectations.
So how would you guys deal with a situation like this? I'm still networking almost daily and keeping up the effort. Also, any of you know how impactful those "exclusive" events are, when it comes to the real summer analyst applications?
I know people who did those programs but didn't get the offer from that firm. On the other hand, I know people who didn't network at all (as in zero) but got offers. A lot of it depends on luck.
Keep doing what you're doing - network with people. Like you said, it's the SA application that matters, not these events.
Dude, take this with a grain of salt, but having a low morale from this in my opinion is quite ridiculous. As you already mentioned, the ones that got invited prob has connections (not surprising if you go to a strong target where ppl work hard and have connections all over the place).
All you gotta do is keep at it see if you can improve on anything and hope for the best. SA networking sessions matters much more important as well as contacting alumnus. There is only so much you can do in 24hrs but keep up the network/grades/EC and you will be fine.
you will be fine, just put your head down and keep working hard. most of all, stop worrying about what other people are doing/getting, the more you worry about them the less time you have to continually improve yourself.

If you are feeling bad now about not getting into these minor events, how do you think you will fare in an internship when an MD chews you out for something?
I can sympathize with your doubts. It's hard getting rejected, especially when you think you are a better candidate than some of the people that got admitted.
How can you convey confidence and competency to your interviewer when you doubt yourself so easily? Hold your head up high and keep on making all the right moves. Realize that just because someone got another opportunity than you doesn't mean that you are doomed. Just look at all the people who went through BB IBD recruiting getting all the first rounds and no offers and then compare them to the people who only got 1-3 first round interviews but an offer or two.
If you start doubting yourself now with these events how will you feel when you don't convert your first round interview into a superday? Believe in yourself!
Man up, nothing in your recruiting past matters now. With networking, preparation, a bit of good luck, and CONFIDENCE, you can be fine.
And exclusive events hardly matter. I've been to 2-3 of the good ones and they never led to an SA or FT offer (though I got offers at other BBs).
