Lunch with VP

after having a call with a VP at an EB, he said we should meet for lunch (networking for ft recruiting here). How would this be different than a normal phone call? and should I be paying for the lunch or let the VP pay or should I split the bill?

Same as a phone call, and then move on to what he likes outside work, talk about sports or music. You can offer to split the bill and he will most likely offer to pay it, say no once, he will offer once again and thank him politely. He knows that you most likely have some debt for college and he probably has a lunch allowance to pay these things.

Tell him what your interest are career wise without specifically saying you want to work at his company, he will likely steer you to his company. As long as you don't come off expecting to get an anything you will be fine. Instead of saying "Can I get an interview with you guys?" ask him how you should continue to network and what his advice would be. If you are not satisfied with his answers then feel free to ask him, express specific interest in his company. Worst case scenario he will probably set you up with some of his friends in the industry.

How did you turn the dinner into an interview? Did you directly ask? How did you carry the conversations? It might be helpful for other monkeys if you can provide some additional detail
