Market / hiring re-open?
With the Cava IPO performing so well, hearing whispers from investors on this being the canary in the coal mine on activity picking back up slowly with the floodgates open by Q4.
Thoughts on this? And if yes, will we see banks scramble to “re-hire” again once the now slimmed down teams are drowning again?
Asking as I am considering a lateral move (I.e. product to coverage), but my firm is not hiring internally right now (or at least very limited).
I sure hope so but doubt it will be a surge.
Fair point. I guess it’s like all things in this industry.. goes slowly, then heats up, then all at once.
Been in IB for 3 years and I truly can’t believe how foolish I believe mass layoffs are - I understand in the wake of a systemic crisis like ‘08, but, you overfire then you overhire less experienced (at the firm) individuals for more money. I know that’s the industry but I find it silly
Completely agree. I am trying to break in, which unfortunately is at the bottom of the cycle. Have had MDs say they would hire me if it were 2 years ago, but I suppose you cannot control this.
Promising Signs: Cava IPO/ Strong Public Market Start to the Year, PE has Money to Deploy/ PortCo's to Exit, Startups can't raise and need to be acquired
Counterpoint: Inflation could be pesky, public/ private market correction when FED stops raising, CRE Collapse, Biden Admin is the Anti-Trust King
Hopeful for the best!
why would there be a correction *after* rate hikes pause?
also i would describe the FTC/DOJ as antitrust bums rather than kings
