MD going to bat for me?
I go to a non-target and got in touch with an MD at a major BB although they sit in the private funds group which is not exactly IB. We talked on the phone about two months ago, and I sent him an email when I dropped my resume today just asking for "advice on next steps". He responded pretty quickly and just sent "You should hear from the recruitment team." Does this mean he sent my info to HR at all or is it basically like you are on your own and he didn't bat for me?
I know its a trivial question and a little bit of over analysis but just part of the season!
That most likely means that he sent your resume to HR, although probably just for the private funds group that he's in. Prepare for the interview.
Harris Williams?
OP says major BB?
I told him on the call i wanted to do traditional coverage banking, and in my email I mentioned to him that I applied for the IB SA position
I assume the answer to this is yes but as you didn't mention it in the OP I should ask...did you also forward him your resume? Was it when you followed up and asked for advice?
I said I'm interested in his firm for next summer, i applied online, and any advice on further steps to make myself a competitive candidate would be appreciated. then said "my resume is attached for context" at the end and attached it. so everything was just in one email
Most likely this is UBS and they do a generalist pool for summers that includes private funds group
