Middle Market Firm IBD Uncertainty

Hi,

I am currently in talks with a VP from a middle market investment banking firm for a summer analyst position. We had an initial interview over the phone, but after that the communication has been pretty silent. I have followed up and he has informed me that they are mainly focused on getting an Associate/VP into the office, but told me to keep following up every week.

I have never heard of a situation like this, and was wondering on people's opinion towards what I should do. Is it worth it to wait around for them to start looking at me for summer analyst position.

Which firm is it? You can mention several (comps type thingy) so we won't find out which one.

Did you apply for an advertised position? Or did you get this opportunity through cold-calling? There is a hugh difference between apply for a job that you know exists and apply for a job that doesn't exist when you apply. Speculative job application is all about the timing and who happens to be scanning your resume.
