my experneice with WSO resume editing

This is my experience; it will be biased, it’s partly a rant as well, but I hope someone here can learn from my mistake and not have this shit happen to you

If I knew what I know now, I wouldn’t have paid 199 for WSO’s resume editing, here’s what happened.

Early 2016, I paid 199 for WSO’s resume editing service, I thought my resume sucked and needed some extra attention. After paying, someone from WSO got in touch with me, he made several rounds of edits, one of them, was revising a title of a previous buyside position I held, it was changed to research analyst from research assistant. I asked him about the change, and he said: “In terms of a particular name of a position at a firm, no firm will check or even care about the specific title name, a long as it accurate in terms of what tasks you performed, we changed it here because we want no mistake on what you were doing at Firm. I would not worry about this. They will not do a background check to check a position name – they will not care”

Fast forward to May of this year, I interviewing for a buyside firm, after 4 rounds of meeting their team, they asked for my references. I was pretty stressed out as I knew if they asked, they would know my previous title is different from the resume, so I told my interviewer ahead of time, I told him I paid for a resume editing service, and that I messed up and the title is inconsistent.

Few days later, I receive an email from my interviewer for a call, I thought I was getting the role, I was so excited and couldn't want to call him, but it turns out, the call was to reject my candidacy – one of the reasons was the title change on my resume.

tl;dr = even if the person advising you tells you they have a Wharton MBA and has worked in BB and buyside, don’t ever misstate factual info on resume
