Need some advice regarding career switch.

Hello everyone, I will try to keep it with direct contextual information.

  • 23-year-old EU citizen living in London, soon to be UK passport holder.

  • Comp Sci BSc graduate, working in technology in Banking.

  • Not really fulfilled, semi-realised I am not into coding.

  • Want to change careers whilst young to see if I can have a better quality of life (not necessarily only monetarily).

  • What I feel I know about myself:

a) I like reading about medical research and diseases.

b) However, on top of that, I really like a variety of stuff regarding companies (e.g watching how different companies operate and how they do business)

c) I would like to have a nice ratio of enjoyment-to-socioeconomic benefits ratio (security, pay, prestige). I know I can't have everything but I want somewhat of a balance.

d) Lack of passion probably will not get me to FAANG dev status.

  • Looking at how many possibilities exists in corporate functions in technology alone gives me mad anxiety, not to mention stuff like Risk, Sales, Operations. Multiply all possible permutations and we got 1000s of options. I guess I have to be ruthless a bit and forget totally about some.

  • Here is what I have come up with:

1) I have an offer for Medical school in the UK, 5 years but it is free. However, disproportionate doctor salaries in the USA is not necessarily true in the UK. However, I believe this is also true for Comp Sci given that I need to fight for visa positions in S. Valley.

2) Management Consulting - this I believe follows from b) section above given that I like a lot of variety and could be interested in researching how to solve different problems for companies.

3) Non-technical roles in tech - Product Owner, BA.

4) Try to explore different tech positions - I have don't only software engineering. So looking into cyber security, data science etc.

5) Go into IB.

  • No clue how to even tackle exploring 3),4) and 5).

  • Looking for guidance on how to make sense of any of this.
