Need to know everything about Private Equity

Hey all,

So through networking I have been invited to speak to a very small, but realtively big and successful, private equity shop. They focus on secondary investing. Had a phone conversation with a manager and he liked me and I do not want to dissapoint him.

Now I know about Private Equity and what it is, but thats as far as my knowledge goes. I want to know about the private equity market and the secondary private equity market. I really want to impress this guy.

What resources can I use to best increase my knowledge about Private Equity, the Private Equity market and the secondary market.

I have been on the job search for a while now. And I can't fuck this opportunity up. Thanks in advance for your help.

I suggest you start with the basics and work your way up to the industry/deal details.

A good place to start is looking at Pearl and Rosenbaum's Investment Banking book. They have two solid chapters on LBOs if that is relevant to the firm you are talking to. Anyway, a good place to get an overview of the basics.

I also found it extremely helpful to learn about actual private equity models to formulate better questions and understand the day-to-day analysis. BIWS does a great job of walking you through various LBO models.

A good way to add color to the private equity experience is reading "Barbarians at the Gate."

Once you feel comfortably with the basics, start looking at some recent deals and industry reports to solidify your knowledge. check out peHUB.com.

good luck.
