Networking

Hey guys I just graduated college and was going to reach out to start networking, I know a VP at a bank that could possibly get me an interview but I don’t want to embarrass her and burn a bridge should I try working harder in improving my background or should I shoot my shot now.

Background: low GPA non-target I have some Java and Python under my belt along with excel and decent modeling skills.
Any tips

It honestly depends on the type of relationship you have with them. Are they a family friend / mutual acquaintance / alumni? Depending on how close you feel like you are with them, it may or may not be a good idea to immediately reach out. what i've learned from past experiences is that if they are someone who will help you no matter what, having an initial conversation to kinda gauge how you can do in that type of environment may be helpful. Otherwise, i would say prep alot beforehand as that never hurts. Hope this helps and best of luck with your networking! one last tip: if you are nervous about embarrasing yourself, may be helpful to cold email some alumni from ur school or other random bankers and test your skills
