Networking and Resume Forward

I am a sophomore at a target school. I have been currently doing networking for diversity programs as well as conventional pipelines. One thing I am not sure how to navigate through is at what point should I ask if they could forward my resume to the HR? Should it be at the end of the chat and should I hint or ask directly? Or should I keep in to the thank you email? Thank you very much in advance for your replies!

You shouldn't outright say it. Bankers that you network with know what you want. At the end of your calls/thank you email, you should position it as "i know your bank's [insert program/interview] is coming up and was curious if you had any advice on what I could do to stand out?" I did this when recruiting and 90% of the time (assuming they like you and you've had good rapport) they responded with "got you on the radar" or "sent your info to HR". They get it, because they did the same thing years ago. It’s important to have good relationships with bankers bc they more you’ve talked to them/known them, the higher the chance they’ll go to bat for you.

Hey I was wondering - should you get on a networking call with someone before you submit your application or after you submit it? I was thinking it's better to do the call after submitting because when the banker refers me to the HR, they can see that they have received my application

You should be networking months before the resume drop/application submission. But in your situation, you should network before the application submission and then send a follow up email when you submit your application just saying "hey just wanted to give you a quick update." List some things youre doing in school/campus involvement plus that you submitted your app. You should be bringing up more than your app so it sounds more natural like a conversation as opposed to something robotic.

So is it normal for a banker to refer someone months before the application even opens for that internship?
