Networking Call Questions/Topics
I am a sophomore about to start process of networking for banking. Have a call with a banker coming up and was wondering if someone could lend some advice as to what to discuss? I’d consider myself pretty outgoing and would be able to hold a conversation well, but are there any main questions a banker would like a prospective candidate to ask/should ask? Thanks.
Start with some small talk and share each other's background. Sometimes the conversation might just flow, sometimes the banker will lead it, and other times you have to start with questions. Here are a few topics:
- Personal - why did they pick the bank/group? If SA -> Analyst, what was the internship experience like and how was the FT transition? What do you do for fun?
- Firm specific - how does group placement work?
- Group specific - If industry group: what type of deals are more common (M&A, debt, or equity financings) and how is the team divided in sector verticals? Is there a focus or specialty on a specific sector (ie. TMT that focuses more on the Tech side)? What is the culture like (i.e. deal team dynamics, woking with each other, environment)?
