I’m an experienced 2nd year analyst with an upcoming informal phone call with an MD at a different firm who manages a team that I would be very interested in joining (he is an alumni of my school and I reached out on Linkedin - we have mutual connections). Are there any best practices for expressing interest in job opportunities without being too forward? For example, would it be too aggressive to ask about opportunities in our introductory call? Or should I aim to develop a relationship over time and then ask about opportunities further down the line? For reference, I believe I would be qualified for the job but I have no idea if his team is hiring.
I got my first job through a formal OCR process so I’m inexperienced with networking for jobs. Any thoughts are appreciated.
