Networking into MF PE Analyst

Was wondering, coming from a semi target/non target, would it be possible to network into one of the MF PE analyst programs? Obviously there’s no pe recruiting at my school, but I’m just wondering jf it’s possible with networking, or since the programs only take like 3-5 kids anyways, is it there no chance and is this just a waste of time?

Pretty much impossible as a non-target in my experience, at least for KKR and Bain Capital. For the current analyst recruiting cycle at these firms, I had to finagle my way into their recruiting webinars by signing up through target school Careers pages, since those firms only sent out applications to kids who attended the webinars. I networked a ton with both senior and junior people at both firms but unfortunately didn't even get a formal first round interview. (An associate from KKR did reach out to me for an informal interview and conversation about the analyst program but despite her flagging my application as good, decisions were made above her that didn't allow me to progress.) I have a really strong GPA and interned at a blue-chip PE firm this summer (that doesn't hire analysts) in addition to other solid internships so I guess I got dinged by going to a non-target school.
