Networking regarding open job positions

I am currently seeking internship opportunities and to maximize my chances, I have been looking up people in various firms of which have internship opportunities available to possibly get in contact with them to show initiative and interest. However, what would be a suitable way to approach them? Can you directly be forward and ask an experienced person on how to best position yourself for the intern position with CV attached or just ask to talk about their experiences in the firm/industry over the phone?

Which way is best to reach out?

Not to be rude or anything, but this question can be answered by Googling for five minutes or search this forum. Most people seem to agree that the best way to get an interview is to develop a relationship with the banker. If this is last-minute type stuff, I think it would be ok to just ask if they have any available opportunities (that is what I have done).
