Nomura 2012 S&T analyst class cut in half?

Can anyone confirm that the Nomura 2012 FT analyst class was cut in half? They are not taking referall candidates and only giving offers/interviewing candidates from recruited schools? I heard this for S&T. If you know anyone there could you find out please? I really really want to work there and they don't recruit at my school. I have a feeling my contact &or HR is jerking my contact & I around. Actually - I can't figure out where the BS is coming from or if it's BS at all.

This is true for the NYC class, not sure about London, HK, or Tokyo

Not sure what you mean. Are you saying they gave out offers, and reneged on half of them? Or that they cut in half their target number of incoming analysts for the 2012 class (and hence will be less/not active in full time recruiting)?

Nothing to do with intern class. I am talking about cutting target number of incoming analysts for the 2012 class (and hence will be less/not active in full time recruiting)? specifically what I heard is - no referral recruiting only via recruited schools. Thank you all for your answers thus far. Any more info would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if you were not called for an interview because you were a referral, but there is talk about inviting you to an informational interview so you can meet some people. What benefit does this have? what is the angle? if you do an informational interview are you no longer considered a referral candidate? or is it just a formality and nothing really comes out of it?

This really sucks - every place I have networked with for FT has had shortcomings in their recruiting bc of the economy. Nomura was the place I really really wanted to work at and now this fell through. How the h3ll am I going to convince a bank to take me for a SA if I graduate in May. Can't delay graduation and have a girlfriend who has obligations in NYC and so I don't see myself going to grad school anywhere remote. Any advice?
