Non-Target, But Can I Do Better?

Hello, I have a pretty open-ended question because I don't really know what direction to go in. I'm headed into my senior year as a finance and economics double major at a non-target school. I've maintained a 4.0 (big flex, I know) so far and just finished a summer at a BB in Internal Audit. I received a full-time offer and I'm tempted to take it. The money is okay and I did enjoy my summer.

I'm sort of terrified of getting stuck in audit. The work is fine, the hours are great, but I just don't see myself being fulfilled long-term. My main question is, if you were in my shoes, would you take the offer and try to network to work my way out of audit? Or should I push for something better out of undergrad? If so, what would you see as the ceiling for someone like me? I don't necessarily have a "dream job", but FO would be amazing even though there is pretty much no recruiting on my campus. Any advice would be helpful, thanks.

I will take it and after 1 year start looking to move within the BB. You can start networking as soon as you start and then go from there from what interests you. BB like hiring from the inside so it shouldn’t be that difficult.

My story is very similar to yours. Non-target school, Econ & Finance double major, 4.0 GPA. Went into my senior year having barely any experience and was able to land a BB FO internship and, ultimately, a FT offer.

It is hard but definitely possible. With that being said, the most important thing is getting your foot in the door, so I would take the current offer and run with it. In any case you can do internal mobility in the future. As you said, you did enjoy your experience.

If you have a somewhat riskier appetite, and are confident in your interview/networking abilities, I would go for it and apply to other banks and aim for a FO role. You MUST be sure of what you want, though. The fact that you have no set role in mind is not great when it comes to FT FO recruiting. You'll be up against kids that have wanted it for a long time and may have a string of experiences in their resume to back it up.

Good luck.
