Not-Even-Kind-Of-Target

I was recently told by an industry vet that the best way to deal with a non-target school background as a high performer is to highlight the pros of the program and the reasons it was chosen. I feel like it would be useful to myself and many other users on this platform to amalgamate some advice on dealing with this kind of situation. Thanks in advance!
