Not Having Luck Finding Summer Internships as a Freshman

Hi, I'm currently a freshman at NYU and have been looking for summer internships for a couple weeks now.

I've cold emailed about 40 local (hometown) firms (mostly in wealth management), but a lot of my emails have gone unanswered or, if someone answers, they tell me that they don't accept freshmen for internships. I know that the way in which a lot of kids get these freshman internships is through their family connections, but my parents don't really know anyone in finance, so I'm kind of left on my own.

Considering that recruiting for IB is in sophomore spring, I am getting a bit worried because I feel that this is my only chance to get something finance related on my resume before recruiting starts.

Would anyone be willing to share any advice on how I should go about getting an internship?

Thanks

I am also a freshman, similar spot to you. I emailed over 600 different firms ranging from pwm shops, to real estate firms, to boutique/regional banks and eventually landed a spot at a good name boutique. It is a numbers game, keep sending out emails, and you will eventually find an internship.

Since NYU is a target school, another strategy is to look up what regional boutique banks/ firms current IB analysts or upperclassmen with offers did during their freshman and sophomore summers. Then, you can reach out to them for help with the process/ a referral or cold email bankers at those firms since they then to be unstructured recruiting cycles. Good luck!
