Not sure what do to do.
Hi Guys,
I am an upcoming graduate here in May from a nontarget school where I am going to end up getting a 4.0. So first off I completely understand that I am not going to one of the large BB, but I have been hammering the job search for since October of 2017. I believe I have really good experience with a two boutique private equity firms for the past three summers, but I have not been able to get any traction in my job search. I have been networking through LinkedIn, phone calls, had previous bosses reach out to their former colleagues and nothing has seemed to work. I have had one job offer that I got last week, but they are offering me less than I made as a summer analyst.
I am not sure what else I could do or if you believe that I am doing something wrong, but I could use some much-needed advice. My resume from all accounts when I talked recruiters and people in my network looks good. I am not even just looking at IB or PE roles, but I have gone to the FP&A side as well and I am still not getting any traction.
I really am at a loss for what else to do and I feel as though I have used all of my resources except the WSO family. I would love to get all of your thoughts.
If you think I must just be a shitty candidate then no need to post. I'll get the hint.
Thanks, Everyone.
Kinda hard to say, since it seems like you've done a lot right. The tough part is that by October most MMs are also done with recruiting. When you say you're having a hard time getting traction, do you mean getting interviews or progressing in interviews? If it's the former, just have to keep networking. If it's the latter, try to ask for feedback.
If it's a reasonable offer, I would seriously consider accepting the offer you have in hand. As long as you think you'll get good experience that you can leverage down the line, don't worry so much about salary for your first job. It would be much worse to be unemployed when you graduate.
