NYC Summer Internship

Hey I was wondering if any of you guys could give me an advice or two on how to obtain an internship this summer (2012) in NYC specifically in I-banking. Currently I am a junior at Virginia Tech where my grades are not SPECTACULAR (i have a 3.3). However, what I do value myself on is my experience and extracurriculars. Currently I am VP of Finance for 2 student run organizations whom I dedicate a good amount of time each week towards. Lastly, last summer I interned at a branch ML office in the wealth management sector where I analyzed stocks as well as day to day activities under the guidance of my advisor. As of right now I have applied to a few companies such as Nomura, Citi, Barclays, etc but am not anticipating all that much considering these banks only recruit at Ivy Leagues. Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated.

Nick

To save you from the inevitable "use the search function" posts you will get:

Network with alumni, work on your grades if you can, and then go from there. I have no clue what VT's representation is on the street, so use linkedin/your school's alumni database to see how many work in banking. Then cold email them, set up info interviews, and hopefully they like you. Summer intern recruiting really picks up in January, so you have so time to network.

Good luck.

What he said.

And, use the search function.
