Offer decision - Recruit w/ other banks?

Got an early offer from an equivalent of DB/UBS/CS. They want me to decide very soon, naturally before the January SA recruiting season.

This is for the summer SA season.

Ideas? Group = IBD. (Not sure product/coverage). Deal flow is 2nd-rate, compared to others like GS/MS, etc...

What would you guys do. Should I say no to the offer and recruit w/ other banks, risking the possibility of a no offer in the end?

I would take it and spare yourself the trouble of recruiting. Any summer experience at a firm of that level will open doors up for interviews for FT positions anywhere on the street provided you have a good resume and that they give you an offer at the end of the summer. Plus, if you end up liking it, you have a job.

I would agree with the above. Unless you know you've got some serious "ins" with a better respected firm, I would take this offer and enjoy the rest of your year knowing you've got a strong SA spot in IB locked up. Going through the whole process again would be very stressful, with a best case scenario of landing a gig at GS, MS or possibly an elite boutique (depending on your interest and the school you attend). In this case, I say hands down go with the sure thing for the SA, and then, if you get the FT offer, try to leverage that and some strong networking into a FT offer from one of the firms that you'd prefer to work at based on rep (or you might just like the bank and team and want to stay). Good luck.

how soon do you need to decide? If its 2 weeks-month, you can reach out to those firms, say you have an exploding offer and then try to interview... if not possible, take it. with it on your resume, you'll definitely get interviews at any place you'd like

Thanks for the info everyone. I ended up telling them that I wasn't able to come to a decision. They ended up extending my offer until the SA recruiting season (I am very thankful to say the least).

My next question is: Is it ok to mention that one has a standing offer during interviews (provided i get more?), and if so, am I allowed to mention the name of the firm?

Please note that I'm not leveraging the offer to force other companies to come up with a decision more quickly. I'm just curious if I can mention the offer casually during 1st round/2nd round interviews if they materialize.
