Opportunities in Brazil?

Hey guys, I'm a rising sophomore currently interning at a PWM firm. Next summer I planned on going to Brazil (dual citizenship) for the World Cup and I then I realized I could extend my stay for the entire summer (winter there) and perhaps intern at a bank in São Paulo or Rio. Does anybody have an idea as to how I can make this happen? I am currently practicing my Portuguese, which I have read can be an asset, but English is typically the main business language there. Should I reach out to expats?

I know the culture is very different there and interning is not the norm. I am willing to do anything. Thoughts?

I have looked into the Goldman Americas program but their program is too long (1-2 years).

I live here but currently working out of the main financial hubs. Interning is the norm, but not short term, usually it is structured as a one year program during your last two years of college.

I would try to contact HR of the main banks and see what kind of opportunities are available. Expats from the US are not that common in banks, but in large companies are.

The M&A market is really concentrated, with around 500 professionals, 80% located in São Paulo.

Oh I see. Thank you very much! So I may be more likely to find something in São Paulo? Should I just explain to the HR that I am an American student looking to intern short term, for 3 months? I would love to work in M&A.

Worked there last summer, am from there, and I can guarantee that English is not the main business language.

So basically unless I am fully fluent, I need not apply? :( Is this standard with most banks or just where you worked?

Unless your parents are connected, I feel like this is going to be difficult to pull off.
