OPS VS Grad School
Hey all i have recently been offered a position in operations for a top BB (GS/MS) and am strongly considering taking the offer. I also got accepted into a top 25 MA in economics (US News). Which would you think would open more doors for MBA or FO roles.? I Definitely have plans of going for an MBA in 3 to 4 years. Thanks for the advice and help.
well an MA will not help in getting an MBA. and "top 25 MA in economics" doesn't sound too great anyway considering very few US schools even offer an MA in economics.
I hate to knock education, but I don't know what an MA does for you career-wise, other than taking a $45K a year job with the Fed.
If you take the MA, there is a good chance you will be applying for the same ops job a year from now.
Have you considered corp fi? WIth that route, you can at least get som eleadershop experience ang go to a good B-SChool in 4 years.
The MA will do nothing except for put you on track to teach econ to snotnosed teenagers for the rest of your life. If bschool is your target, you want to get work experience.
Hands down choose the Ops role...no need for a MA if you anticipate pursuing an MBA
I didn't know any legit school in the US actually offers MS in econ?
only good ones I've ever heard of are nyu: http://econ.as.nyu.edu/page/ma duke: http://www.econ.duke.edu/ecoteach/masters/index.html Umich: http://www.lsa.umich.edu/econ/grad/mae
