Oslo/Stockholm IB to London IB

Hi all,

Currently working at a top tier investment bank in Oslo/Stockholm with 6-12 months experience. I am thinking of trying to make the shift to a BB in London to get som international experience. Does anyone have any tips or ideas on how to do that?

Start by applying to open positions advertised on e.g. LinkedIn. Also let headhunters know about your preferences when they contact you (usually begins more seriously once you pass the 1 year mark in Nordic banks). You can also actively reach out to headhunters, but most London moves are from inbounds or through job ads (anecdotal experience).

The move is usually not too difficult once you have some experience. Nordic speaking people are usually in demand, especially for coverage of Nordic clients. However, some banks, e.g. JPM have moved their Nordic team to Stockholm, so in that case you’d most likely have to join an industry or product team. The option also remains to work at a BB in Stockholm and then transfer internally to London. Good luck!
