ownership of a family owned business in resume
I know some of you may think that this would be a stupid no-brainer question, but I still thought it would be nice to ask. I'm trying to think of something unique to list on my resume.
Say you are a Senior in college looking for FT. If your dad owned a pretty well established company (medium size, not listed, but can get listed), and you have like a 25% ownership of it, would you list this on your resume? maybe as an equity partner? No working experience there, though. And the company (although service industry) is completely unrelated to finance.
What do you all think? Critique / mocking welcomed.
Have you taken part in the management of the company? If not I'd say it's pointless, you're listing somebody else's work on your resume for the sake of it.
Instead of doing this, network and try to get yourself some internships which could then fast-track you to FT positions.
Have you attended board meeting or involved in decision making process of your family business ?
You should aim to include your "involvement" in the business in the CV. Ownership is useless in your case.
Now if you wanna play the "hire me and your firm can take my family business public" card, I think it would prob. only be useful in some pretty small shop, depending on the size of your family business.
if you and your dad own a medium sized, successful business - why the hell do you need a resume? go work for daddy warbucks and get involved in the family business.
to answer your question - no, don't put it on your CV if you are not actively involved. It'd be like listing your investment portfolio - nobody gives a shit how affluent you are.
