PDF is definitely the way to go. It ensures everyone will be viewing the exact same thing.

Not sure where you are uploading your resume where "hack headhunters and search engines" might be looking for it, but you won't find any legit jobs through that.

MarginCallingcould anyone saying .doc explain the reasoning? thanks

Coming from Europe, I was used to use PDF but almost every HH ask now for a .doc

I am assuming that they use a research tool.

On a side note, I personaly prefer a Word document to see if there is any "formating fantasy" that you can't see in a PDF. It was useful to recruit SA and to see who can or can't make a proper and consistant word document.

I did NYC IB and used PDF (got offer). I found that every now and then, there would be a glitch in .doc formatting on the other end. To ensure the reader is viewing the same thing you are, I would go with PDF.

jglasgowLooks like everyone is split down the middle. I am also unsure of which format to submit to companies.

If you polled the board, it wouldn't be close to an even split - PDF would win convincingly. It just makes sense to be able to guarantee a consistent presentation of the resume. Wanting to see how people formatted their essays in Word is incredibly anal and (hopefully) a very rare occurrence.

I've seen a couple of NY recruiting websites that only allow you to upload .doc - but if I were emailing my resume to someone I'd definitely go with PDF.

Another vote for PDF. I have received for various reasons many of my friend's resumes which are in .doc, and was surprised at how many showed up on my or the school computers with formatting differences and that dreaded one line on the second page.

pdf is great because you typically don't have to worry about your formatting being screwed up because of some subtle Word settings or anything I think there used to be sort of a discussion on whether one was more or less appropriate because not everyone necessarily would have applications to read all of these various files but nowadays that shouldn't be an issue and if someone reading your resume has a strong enough preference then they should let you know before hand what they expect. realistically, everyone's got a word processor and adobe so its not of the utmost importance unless the receiver specifies what they want

i hate it when people want the source file. it is annoying because it prohibits you from using programs outside the microsoft suite (gasp!).

pdf's all the way! :o)

Open the document you want to create a PDF out of. Hit control + P. Select "Print to File" instead of a printer. It has been awhile, i think this will get you there. If not, use your school's scanner.
