The role involves alpha research and AI, but the firm lacks name recognition and the compensation is merely average. I understand a PhD isn't strictly required, but I have observed many non-IMO types land top-tier roles simply by being smart and demonstrating strong research capabilities. From a career perspective, would a Math PhD significantly improve my chances at a top trading firm compared to four years of experience as a QR at a Tier 3 firm? While I would primarily pursue the PhD for intellectual fulfillment rather than career advancement, I am curious about its professional utility.
