Please advise. No reponse 1 week plus 1 day after interview.

Hi,

I had a 1st round interview with Kaufman Bros for the junior equity research associate position on Monday last week. The person who interviewed me is currently the head of the investment banking division, and before being promoted to this position he had been the head of the research team for a decade.

Before the whole interview process came to an end, he told me "hopefully we will ask you to come back next week for a 2nd round interview". Now its been a week plus 1 day, but i still haven't got any responses. I know its very close the holidays right now, but 1 week after interview is usually not a good sign.

I called the secretary yesterday about whether there is a 2nd round interview for this particular position, and she told me she had heard nothing about any 2nd round interviews so far. I was assuming if any 2nd round interview decisions were made, the secretary should have known about them, since it was her who contacted me for the 1st round interview. Am i correct on this?

Are there any follow-up steps I should take right now? Send the person who interviewed me another email to check the status of if I am still being considered for this position? Or should i just wait?

Please give me any advices you might have. Thanks a lot in advance!

Your in a tough situation because it is right around the holidays. I would say most senior guys have taken most of this week, if not all of this week off so just hang tight. I would shoot the email to the interviewer and explain how you understand he is very busy but you wanted to know if there was any update. You could go on and explain how the position is very important to you etc etc. Keep it two lines. The reason I am saying this is I do not believe it will hurt your chances if you have not been selected.

"What do you mean, you're gonna pass. Alan, the only people making money passing are NFL quarterbacks and I don't see a number on your back. "

Thanks a lot for the suggestions , ITSALLABOUTTHEU.

I was worried if it was too pushing to send an email right around the holidays. Are there any ways I could make myself sound not too pushing? For example, what should i put on the subject line of the email?

Thanks!

Inquiry? Hello?

The thing is "airrebert07" you want to make it seem like your very interested but not coming off like "HEY DID I GET THE FING JOB!?".

Say something along the lines of I know you are extremely busy but I hope things are starting to slow down with the quarter close and holidays right around the corner. (INSERT NAME OF BANK) is my top choice and I just wanted to check the status update of my interview.

If you didn't get the job it doesn't matter that you emailed anyways. If they have not selected candidates for the second round, then this in no way could hurt you if you do not come off pushy. In my mind it would certainly help.

No that sounds corny. I'd say inquiry or hello. I take it you already said thank you for the interview????
