Plunging Markets Make it Harder to Get Interviews
I've been cold calling firms recently and the plunging markets is making it really difficult to get interviews. Most of the firms I talk to say that the market is crap and to check back in a couple of months. The atmosphere is pretty negative out there and landing a job is going to be a lot more difficult if things don't improve.
I don't mean to be Johnny Raincloud, but I don't see the job market in finance improving any time soon. If anything, it's more layoffs and more consolidation. Keep all your options open, Wall Street might not be where you end up.
The finance job market is bad, unless you're a superstar with relevant experience, or you're a student at an elite business school.
while it's definitely not my dream job, i'm so glad i have a job that i can pay the bills with right now. totally not looking forward to graduating next semester though. not being able to land a finance job right now won't look THAT bad on my resume in the future, right? :(
Jim Rogers says to get into farming in lieu of finance as Wall Street is going to be a slog over the next decade.
He's been right about a few things over the years.
How are you with the plow?
WHAT? I would kill for an oppourtunity to run a farm, eat organic food and enjoy not being in the rat race.
Would anyone here recommend a Strategy Consulting gig over a Valuation role at a Big4 if your "goal" is FO finance/Hedge fund, based on the fact that finance seems "dead" for the next few years?
