Potential opportunity at MM bank

I've been in touch with an associate at a MM bank over the past several months. He told me recently that he passed my resume along to the head of his group and that the head was "very excited" about my experience. I'm a 2008 graduate and just completed an off-cycle internship at a boutique, so I would be brought on as a 1st-year analyst.

The associate said that his group definitely does need additional people, but the shortage of personnel makes it tough to devote time to onboarding someone. This MM bank is also big enough to have an HR bureaucracy that needs to be maneuvered.

While looking around for other opportunities, I've been waiting to hear back from them. Do you think this implies a chance for me to interview with them or a potential offer? An alumnus of my school is a VP there and he seems to be pulling for me. Also, how likely is it that they would bring on a 1st-year analyst at this point of the year?
