Potential Quant positions
Hi guys! First of all, I am new in the forum so a big hello to everyone. My main reason to write here today is to expose a bit my current situation.
I am a recent PhD graduate who has actively started looking for Quant positions. My background is from Physics, and although I have not taken any base education in Finance, I have been reading books by myself on the quant subject side. I have had already a couple of interviews for some banks, in order to get a quant position.
I would like to ask some experts in the field about the following situation: Imagine one day I am offered a position as a back-office quant. Then should I consider taking it, lets say, for a model validation position?
I have read/heard that jumping from the back to the fron office is not an easy step, so I am a bit afraid that once a decission is made, there is no return point in order to work at some point in the front office. On the other hand, probably my knowledge in the field is so basic/needs to get stronger that getting a position in the front office can be very difficult at present. What is your advice on this? Are there chances to move on to the front office in the future even when you start your career in the sector from the back office?
Thank you!
