Prepping for business school

So I’ve struck out on recruiting for IB/ER roles when I got fired in January (worked in er for 6 months and moved to IB). I have 1.5 years of finance experience at a MM bank and a year of clinical research experience.

I don’t really know what to do now. I’m guessing use an MBA to get back into the high finance game. I come from a non target with a stem degree. 3.7 GPA. I’m going to start studying for the GMAT and apply next year to MBA programs. Assuming I do well on the GMAT, would I be competitive for top 7 MBA programs? Also how do schools view the layoff and not being able to manage to land another role. When I apply it would be around the 8 month mark I believe (October apps)
