Question about IB Internships

Hey guys! I'm a college student and I was wondering when internships for IB usually open / when the best time to apply is. I hear that recruiting usually begins a year before in the Spring (recruiting for Summer 2021 begins in Spring 2020), but I'm not sure if this is valid or not. Is it more beneficial to apply to the internships early on, or spend some time networking during the spring and the summer before applying? Lastly, what should you focus on when networking before internships (I guess another corollary of this is how beneficial is it to network before applying for internships)?

Recruitment timeline is very staggered, but you are generally correct. Applications for SA 2021 programs opened early this year (March-ish). Some firms will recruit in the spring while others will start in the summer or fall. But in general, people will have secured an internship by October/November at the lastest. Diversity candidates are usually on a different schedule since their applications open earlier than the general applications. You should apply as soon as you are ready.

Networking is important. This is because you want the recruitment team to know a little bit about you when you submit your application. In some cases, a networking call could lead you to an interview right away.
