Question for Veterans in HF

Hi all, first time posting on the forums. I've been reading and trying to break into Global Macro, and my ultimate goal is to work for a Top Down Discretionary Macro Firm (big fan of soros, PTJ, druckenmiller, moore, kovner). I'm just out of college so this may be very specific, but if this is my end goal, are there any HF/trading roles that I should definitely stay away from or jump towards if I come across them?

I have been reading a lot on the forums that S&T is good for global macro, and that IB isn't the way to go b/c of the lack of market exposure. Is there a particular path(s) that may be better than others(working on an fx/bond desk, trading assistant, etc)?
