It is good to ask about deals they worked on that they enjoyed, then possibly ask them questions based on what they say for example, what was the role of their team/bank on this deal. Although due to the confidentiality of deals, they may not be able to talk much about it, however, this is a good way to show you're interested. You could ask what type of tasks interns/analysts/their position will do during these transactions to get a good sense of what the job entails.
