Quitting before completing notice period

Hi all,

Just a little bit background. I am planning to return to school (considering going back to academia) and have applied a masters program.

The program will commence in early October and I was told that I am on the waitlist. They will continue to screen and interview candidates until early August. And the latest I can hear back could be late August / early September.

My current job requires 3 months notice period. So if I hear anything after August, I won't be able to attend the program / serve my notice.

Chances of getting admitted is not very high but I just want to know how to position myself in case this happens. I don't want to burn any bridges but it is also difficult to pass the opportunity if I get off from the waitlist (probably difficult to get admitted again given I am a marginal waitlisted candidate).

I reached out to the admissions and was told they are very unlikely to give out offers to waitlisted candidates before mid August. Deferral is also not granted because the degree would be fully funded under a government scholarship program that is attached to it.

Thanks a lot guys!

Dpnt go hard on him.

I would say that you'll realize at the end of the day, that it's uour life. The company can remove you whenever they want and won't hesitate at all. Yo u have to do what is right for you.

Will update my computer soon and leave Incognito so I will disappear forever. How did I achieve Neanderthal by trolling? Some people are after me so need to close account for safety.

You should be transparent and communicative with your current firm. Last thing you want to do is surprise them by saying you’re on your way out with no heads-up. Start by speaking with your closest colleagues and gauge the situation. But if you don’t want to burn any bridges, you have to maintain their trust, and you need to be forthcoming.
