Reckless Driving/Misdemeanor
I recently accepted an offer at a Big 4 firm as of this past week to work as part of their Government & Public Sector consulting practice, meaning I would have to get a Security Clearance at some point.
My question is, does any have any experience getting hired with a misdemeanor on their record? And better yet, getting a security clearance.
For context, my reckless driving dates back to 2014/2015 when I was 20 years old. It was a DUI arrest, but dropped to reckless driving. I completed my community service and have had zero incidents or issues since then. I also started working at my current Big 4 firm in 2017. I disclosed the incident on the hiring background check, and had no issues.
I also disclosed the incident on my recent offer's background check, yet am still worrying regardless of the fact that it caused me no issues when hired by my current firm in 2017.
Any experience similar?
Reckless driving should be less than reckless endangerment, so I don't believe it is an issue. People with a misdemeanor can get a clearance as long as you don't have a pattern of vehicular convictions and/or arrests. Multiple offenses would be a problem.
It was the right thing to report this straight away. Going forward, after receiving your clearance, make sure to read the reporting requirements for the clearance to understand which misdemeanors and which fines should be reported.

reckless driving = driving a vehicle in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property
reckless endangerment = recklessly engages in conduct that creates a substantial risk of death or serious physical injury to another person.
only the first offense is a driving offense, the other one is not.
Yeah, from what I was reading, its mostly things around repeated behaviors and any indication that you are unreliable or dishonest, or may cause a problem in the future. At this point, I'm mainly concerned about my offer from the firm being reneged simply due to the misdemeanor itself....which sounds like I'm overthinking it.
Normally traffic offenses are not the biggest deal for an offer, unless they are repeated, are a felony or led to a conviction that must bar you from certain industries or jobs (like drug offenses would be an issue if you want to work at an airport, financial/criminal misconduct are problems for jobs in a bank,, etc )
