Recruiter sent this email back 2 weeks after my final interview. What do you make of it?

I removed some unrelated parts of the email, but this is the main message;

"I appreciate your patience with the process of interviewing and hearing back about hiring decisions. We truly appreciated having the chance to speak with you and learn about your interest in a career with -. As of right now, we are continuing to review all of our business and Risk Management hiring needs and will be placing your acceptance on hold for the time being. This is not a bad thing – think of this as a waiting list."

I am supposed to get an update this Wednesday but wanted to know what some other people thought of the wording of this email. To me, it sounds like I did not make the first group of accepted candidates but there still might be spots available in other groups or disciplines. What do you think?

You’re probably wait listed…meaning they’re gonna keep interviewing more people and if they like some of the new interviewees, they will give them an offer and compare them to the previous batch.

Basically, they like you but they wanna see if they can get some other candidates that might be better.
