Referrals- Must be from people in IB?
Hey everyone. I was just wondering if in networking I should specifically aim to get referrals by people specifically working in IB or as long as theyre a worker in the bank its fine. Is it enough if I have people in, say Morgan Stanley, to refer me or should I try to aim for people in the IB section. Also does office location make a difference, say I can get a referral from someone in Chicago or London but Im applying to NYC? Thanks!
There’s already a stack of referrals lined up from people in IB, so unless someone has really good in with the IB folks, some other department is not that useful.
And yes, you can have cross-office referrals, but only effective at MD+ levels. And works well only if the team actually knows the person well.
If im applying to nyc office is it worth anything if a referral is from someone in london?
If the team you are applying to know the person, sure. If not, it will add nothing substantial to your app.
What do you mean by the team Im applying to? As in the hr people reading my app or the people in ib?
