Referrals: Timeline / London

Hey everyone,

Got locked out of my previous account. Anyway, I have some networking track record and people willing to refer me. Although I am having a bit of a confusion. Help me sort this / share your opinion.

Should I first apply to a specific role and then let the person know to flag my profile? Or should I first wait for that person to “refer” me and then apply to put their name on the application form?

Not sure what goes first - so far it has been people flagging my profile but now I am a little confused how to proceed with others.

Thanks

Hey there! Based on the most helpful WSO content, it seems like there's no one-size-fits-all answer to this. Some people prefer to apply first and then let their contact know to look out for their application. Others find it more effective to get the referral first and then apply, mentioning the referral in their application.

However, it's crucial to maintain open communication with your contact throughout this process. If you're unsure, you could ask them directly what they prefer or what they think would be most effective. After all, they know their company's system best.

Remember, networking is a powerful tool in the job application process, but it's also about building genuine relationships. So, keep up the good work and good luck!
