Rejected for wearing a G-Shock watch?

Hi everyone, I was talking to some random prospective bankers lately. One of them told me that his friend got rejected for wearing a G-Shock to the interview. He said that he preformed well, but he got a mail a few days later telling him he wasn't selected. But the weird thing was that he got an extra sentence telling him how he should wear a better watch. Was this the reason? If not, does wearing a better watch will help? What is an ideal formal attire?

That was me. I got rejected for wearing a G Shock watch.

I had a long band, and was wearing it as a chocker around my neck. The alarm went off mid interview and I think it annoyed the person interviewing me. Oh well.
