Reneging Bulge Bracket SA Offer -- Advice

Hi! I am a current sophomore and was fortunate enough to get a sophomore SA offer for 2024 at a BB IB. When I accepted the offer, I was told that I would also receive a SA offer for 2025 (Junior summer). However, I am more interested in PE in the long term and accepted a SA offer for 2025 at a PE firm.

The BB IB just sent me an official offer letter for summer 2025 and asked that I accept within the week. Should I just accept the BB IB SA offer for 2025 and then renege after my 2024 internship if I still want to go into PE? Any advice?

Thanks so much!

Accept and then renege later if you find something better. Most sophomore summer analysts move to a “better” position their junior summer.

No reneging is not a good look — it can lead to the PE firm pulling their offer as well. Just don’t accept SA2025, that won’t restrict your SA2024 opportunities much. You’ll still do IB bitch work and may just get stuck pitching instead of getting transaction experience worst case. Never accept two offers for the same summer.

Thanks for the reply. I’m scared that if I don’t accept the SA 2025 offer, they’ll pull the SA 2024 offer? Do you think/have heard about that risk?
