SA 2026 Paranoia

Hello, I am currently a sophomore a academically recognized top school, but non-target. Seeing William Blair open their applications is getting me paranoid: I'm currently in a part-time IB role, doing school stuff too, and was going through some personal issues recently, and I haven't had too much time to network. Probably only talked to ~15 professionals until now, few of which I did get to build what I consider to be a good relationship. Coming from a non-target, I'm super worried about where I'm at in the networking process, especially with applications opening right now. Should I be expecting EBs to be also opening applications in Nov, or would they usually take place in Dec? Any thoughts? How would the BBs be looking?

At a target. My career center told us that NY BB/EB/MMs won’t start interviewing until late Jan or early February. The applications will likely open in early Jan or mid Jan. Some Chicago firms will start in early Jan, but no interviews will be conducted in the fall semester.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:

  1. William Blair: They have opened their applications for the June intake, so it's understandable to feel the pressure.

  2. Networking: It's crucial, especially coming from a non-target school. While you've talked to around 15 professionals, it's important to keep building those relationships and expanding your network.

  3. EBs (Elite Boutiques):

    • PJT Partners and Perella Weinberg Partners (PWP) are known to open and interview very early. They can have offers wrapped up by the end of the first week of October.
    • Other EBs might open their applications in November or December, but it's best to keep an eye out and be prepared.
  4. BBs (Bulge Bracket Banks):

    • Most BBs and EBs start their interviews from the first week of September onward.
    • The literal first day of first-round interviews for most BBs and EBs is often in mid-October.
    • Goldman Sachs (GS) opens their process very early but doesn't run it until November.
  5. General Advice:

    • Start preparing and networking as early as possible, ideally from June/July.
    • Even if you're behind, focus on quality interactions and building strong relationships with the professionals you connect with.
    • Keep track of application deadlines and ensure your resume and cover letters are polished and ready to go.

Given the current time (October 22, 2024), you should be actively networking and preparing for interviews. It's not too late to make significant progress, but you'll need to be diligent and proactive in your efforts.
