Scheduling calls for FT recruiting

I’m doing an IB internship right now and I want to join a better bank and group. With networking being the most important aspect of it, when I reach out to people on LinkedIn, should I say I’m interested in FT recruiting or just say ask for a catch up call? In other words, what should I say in the initial message to set up a call? Any help would be great. And I know that I need a return offer first so I will be working hard for that too.

Most people played the same game so everyone gets in when you reach out for a call. I was always pretty upfront about being interested in a group and how I wanted to ask a few questions which worked well bc people knew I wasn’t trying to bullshit them. People can tell when you’re trying to blow smoke from a mile away.

Side note: if you don’t already know this, make sure you include your resume and 3-4 times that would work for the call. Make it as easy as possible for the person you are trying to talk to. Once they respond with a time/date, it is your responsibility to send over a calendar event with clear information re the call (e.g., who is calling who at what number on which date/time)

So pretty much when I reach out on LinkedIn I should say “Hey, (my background) and i would like to set up a call to ask you some questions about your group and firm.”? Even though it’s still early in the summer, should I straight up say that I want to lateral for full time on the call or just plant the seed for a few weeks and reach out again? I really appreciate the help.
